British Shorts, The New Current and HOME Artist Film Lab.

This week is a week of opportunities to screen, discuss
and share Recipes for Baking Bread. On Monday 24th of
January Recipes for Baking Bread appeared at
British Shorts. This is a brilliant festival of short, UK
films in Berlin. This programme includes a special of
work by Max Cooper and McGloughlin Brothers. Both of
these artists were huge inspirations for Recipes for
Baking Bread
. Max Cooper appeared to me by
production executive on Recipes for Baking Bread,
Richard Gort. Richard showed me Cooper’s audio and
I used this as part of my brief for composter Yoni
Collier. This is my first festival screening for Recipes
for Baking Bread
. A full programme is online

As part of screenings at British Shorts I also have an
interview online. This is with British online magazine
The New Current. A link is online here:
https://www.thenewcurrent.co.uk/sara-nesteruk. This interview is
my discussion of my academic practice, theories and
production on Recipes for Baking Bread. I describe
influences from poetry, film, theories and my intentions
and relationships to these stories. I also include details
of collaborators on this project and their roles and
contributions to my work. Two images appear in this
article. My first is a missing scene from The Accident.
This I included when I first found out about Holodomor.
Andrea Lioy who was script advisor for The Accident
encouraged me to remove this scene from my first film.
Andrea’s perspective was stories of Holodomor were too
big for my existing narrative. When I removed this
scene I made a commitment to making a new film
about Holodomor. This is my edited scene. My
second image is of my storyboards for Recipes for
Baking Bread
. This has been a brilliant opportunity
for press around my project and to describe my
work and ideas in detail, outside of academic contexts.

This week I received notification of a successful
application for HOME Artists Film Lab. This takes
place in February. This is a brilliant opportunity to
meet and talk with other creatives, film directors
and artists. This is a three day event. It includes
artists’ screenings of films. I am screening The Accident.
It also includes artists’ workshops, discussion and
events. I am excited to appear in this with 14
other artists and directors. My intentions and
ideas are about discussion and sharing of practice.
Reflecting on my previous projects, inspiration and
ideas for future projects, and in particular I’d love to
develop ideas and strategies around screening,
distribution and audiences for Recipes for Baking
Bread. All three of these opportunities are
exciting ways to reflect back on my processes in
this project.
